Backcountry Horsemen of Washington, Inc. is a
non-profit group established in 1977 of over 30 chapters statewide and a membership of over 3,500 is affiliated with the
Backcountry Horsemen of Washington's Leave No Trace ethic
serves to protect the rights of all outdoor recreationists and horsemen in particular to enjoy and preserve the beauty of lands for future generations by keeping trails open through maintenance, education, and legislation. Over 20,000 volunteer hours have been donated to this goal annually over several years. Members are available to speak to local groups.
Joining BCHW will help preserve your
trails should you decide not to also join a local chapter.

The primary purpose of Backcountry Horsemen of Washington is to work toward the perpetuation of the legal and moral claim by American people to use horses and mules for recreation on public lands.
To unite horsemen as a viable contracting group to work with
governmental agencies to achieve the
goals and objectives of the Backcountry Horsemen of Washington.
To encourage responsible citizen involvement in governmental actions affecting public
lands.
To oppose unjustified restrictions and closure to horse-use on public lands.
To educate and
inform horsemen and others interested
in or affected by policies and programs of
the Backcountry Horsemen of Washington, about
the impact of horse use on backcountry lands, especially fragile areas.
To demonstrate
that horsemen are citizens concerned about protecting the environment, as well
as sustaining economic equilibrium for the community and country.
ABOUT TRAILDUSTERS
Traildusters, one of the original chapters of Backcountry Horsemen of Washington was founded in the 1950's by Ken Wilcox, the founder of BCHW. Trailldusters
has over 130 members.
