Twisp River ride September 2-3, 2017

Twisp River Horse Camp

Driving Directions:  From Twisp, turn on to the Twisp River Road, heading west. There is a Cascade Bank on the corner, there is also a truck on a pole on another corner. If you are coming over the North Cascades Highway, the bank will be past the Chevron Station, on your right. Turn right onto Twisp River Road.

If you are coming via Stevens and Highway 2, the bank will be past the Les Schwab’s and on your left.

Follow the Twisp River Road for about 10—12 miles, it then becomes Forest Ser-vice Road 44. Continue on FS Road to Mystery Campground junction, when FS Road 44 becomes FS Road 4435.

Turn left (actually more like a big ”Y”) heading towards Mystery Camp and follow the road (FS Road 4435) past Mystery Camp, over a 1 lane bridge and curve to the right. Stay on this road all the way to the end.

The camp has pull through and back-in sites, they have feed bunkers, a loading ramp with hitch rails. Stock water at the river. The Campground sites are in-tended for stock users. There are toilets. No potable water or garbage service. They have manure bunkers, but please pack out as much as you can, as the bunkers can get quite full quickly. No portable corrals are allowed and a NW Trail Pass is required along with Weed/Seed Free Hay.

Trails are varied in difficulty and length and most are destination trails to a spe-cific location not a loop.  Fishing at lakes is available. Green Trails maps of the area and trails include: #82 Stehekin, #83 Buttermilk Butte and #84 Twisp. The Methow Valley Ranger Station has a good booklet called Methow Valley Trail Guide.
